Promote research in Tulu script, manuscripts PDF Print E-mail

Udupi, Feb 29: Scholar Bannanje Govindacharya said on Thursday that educational and spiritual institutions should give training to students to conduct research in Tulu script and manuscripts.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Manuscripts Awareness Campaign organised by the National Mission for Manuscripts, New Delhi, the National Institute of Prakrit Studies and Research, Shravanabelagola, in association with the Rashtrakavi Manjeshwara Govinda Pai Memorial Research Foundation, Udupi, at the Dr. T.M.A. Pai College of Education here.

Mr. Govindacharya said that many people were simply worshipping ancient manuscripts without bothering to know what was written in them.

Many manuscripts had been lost as they had either been eaten by termites or discarded by people without realising their importance.

“Such reckless acts have led to the loss of invaluable manuscripts,” Mr. Govindacharya said.

M. Udayraj welcomed the gathering. Principal of Dr. T.M.A. Pai College of Education Mahabaleshwara Rao presided over the function.

Director of Govinda Pai Research Centre Heranje Krishna Bhat, Head of the Department at the National Institute of Prakrit Studies and Research, Shravanabelagola, B.S. Sannaiah, and scholar Padekal Vishnu Bhat were present.
