Mangalore, Jan 26: Let's work together for the development of the district putting aside all our differences and petty disputes called M. Maheswara Rao Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada here today. He was speaking after taking the salute of the Republic Day parade held at Nehru Maidaan here today.

Mr. Rao said that there were issues that affect the lives of millions of people in the district like livelihood, poverty, ignorance, health and other issues. As a people of an enlightened district we should hone the skills of improving the lives of those who were underprivileged he added. As a part of the 58th Republic day the district administration had organised many events that included a parade by the police, Home Guards, Scouts and Guides and Bharat Seva Dal. 24 athletes from the district were honoured for their sporting achievements. And Children from various schools of the district enthralled the gathering with spectacular dance performances.



The vintage car rally, organised by the Mangalore Motor Sports Association was a major attraction. According the organisers this was the sixth consecutive year that the association is putting up this rally. The rally also featured 1942-bike, owned by one Ganapathy which was a British made "Matchless-350 cc. Another bike the Norton 500 also attracted the audience in great numbers. The oldest among them was an American World War II Ford owned by Kiran J Bhandari who wore ankle-level boots and camouflage pants, to complete the military effect. This time the RD Parade did not have any politicians as the state is governed by the governor under the president's rule .
