MCC to sign MoU with MSEZ PDF Print E-mail

Mangalore, Jan 13: Mangalore City Corporation will sign an MoU with Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) for the operation and maintenance of sewage treatment plants, said Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao.

 

Speaking at a review meeting with Third Finance Commission members, he said the MSEZ will use the water from sewage treatment plant for their maintenance. They will treat once again before use. MSEZ requires lot of water.

The cost of the maintenance of Sewage treatment will be borne by the MSEZ. This will help the MCC to save Rs 10 crore to 12 crore annually.

The sewage treatment plants are being set up across the City as part of Underground drainage system which will be commissioned by the end of the year. The sewage plants are being taken up by the Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environment Maintenance Project in the City.

Mr Rao said the Mangalore City Corporation is also proposing to introduce infrastructure cess to have a mass rapid transport system. In the next 10-15 years, the City will grow and we have to think of managing the transport now itself, he added.
